5th Graders and parents of 5th graders: Come learn all about our BW 6th Grade Panther Academy For Leadership – co-hosted by the BW PTA 5th / 6th grade Support Committee and our very own 6th grade PAL leaders.
- Thursday, November 2 @ 6:30 pm in the Bryker Woods Library
Hear from current 6th graders, parents, and BW alumni who stayed at BW for 6th and have gone on to attend a variety of middle schools and high schools. Hear from the 5th / 6th grade faculty about their pre-AP and enriched 6th grade curriculum and the many benefits of staying and becoming a PAL 6th grade leader. Learn about everything 6th grade at BW has to offer and how it prepares students for middle school and beyond.
We are thrilled you and your child are here to experience the new Panther Academy for Leadership (PAL) sixth grade program at Bryker Woods! We are so excited about the opportunities ahead…especially with our elective offerings which you and your child will be hearing more about soon!
As you may know, we have 33 sixth grade leaders this year, and while there is no state cap on the student-teacher ratio, we have been given approval for a temporary substitute for support in the 6th grade classroom over the next few weeks–decisions about anypermanent additional position will be made by the district after the AISD leveling process. In this process, which takes place a few weeks after the the beginning of the school year (week of Sept. 12), the district reviews class sizes for all campuses, and teachers from under enrolled schools are moved to schools that have exceeded projected enrollment. I will communicate the outcome of the district’s decision-making process regarding any additional staffing, and our plan in moving forward, as soon as the information becomes available.
I am pleased to announce that Meegan Bohmer, parent to Christian, August and Natalie, and a member of our Campus Advisory Council, will serve as the temporary substitute for 6th grade. She will collaborate alongside Mr. Nelson, Ms. Shirey and Ms. Vincent for support in the core content areas. Welcome, Meegan!
Thank you so much, families, for your support for the PAL program at BW!
